According to the latest release from Webometrics in the evaluation conducted in July 2023, Thu Dau Mot University has gained two levels up in comparison to the results published in February 2023, moving from the 20th to the 18th place out of a total of 186 universities and research institutions in Vietnam.
The Cybermetrics Labs laboratory (part of the National Research Council of Spain) has announced the results of the Webometrics ranking for the second time in 2023. In Vietnam, there are 186 universities and research institutions listed in the ranking. Among them, the National University of Hanoi maintains its position as the number 1 university in Vietnam. Thu Dau Mot University now stands at the 18th position, marking its highest ranking ever according to Webometrics.
In this ranking cycle, Webometrics has maintained the same methodology as in the February 2023 ranking. Specifically, the Visibility criterion holds the highest weight (50%). Following that is the Excellence criterion, accounting for 40% based on data from the 5 years from 2018 to 2022. The transparency criterion carries a weight of 10%.
For Thu Dau Mot University, its presence on Webometrics from 2020, with a ranking of 39, held the 24th position in 2021. From 2022 onwards, the university has consistently maintained a position in the top 20 universities in Vietnam according to this ranking. Additionally, in June 2023, SCImago (SCImago Institutions Rankings) also published a ranking of research institutions and universities worldwide for the year 2023. In this ranking, Thu Dau Mot University achived the 5th position in Vietnam. Over the course of 14 years of establishment and development, the scientific and educational reputation of the university has been solidified with high positions on both domestic and global rankings, affirming that the university's various activities are increasingly comprehensive, progressive, and sustainably developing.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (abbreviated as Webometrics) is a system for evaluating and ranking higher education institutions worldwide. The ranking table is published by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (in Spanish called: Consejo Superior de Investigaciones
Científicas, CSIC) based in Madrid. This system is also known by another name “the Ranking Web of Universities”. The ranking was first published in January 2004, and the publication cycle of the Webometrics ranking is twice a year. In Vietnam, new universities were included in this evaluation and ranking system by Webometrics starting from January 2016. As of July 2023, in Asia, 46 countries (including Vietnam) are evaluated by Webometrics. In Vietnam, there are 186 higher education institutions listed in the ranking.
