As a forum connecting scientists and experts from both domestic and international backgrounds to exchange experiences in higher education training. Additionally, it sought solutions for educational policy development to meet the demands for high-quality human resources and socio-economic development for Vietnam and Binh Duong Province.
On June 21, 2024, Thu Dau Mot University, in collaboration with the Asia Association of Education and Exchange - AAEE (Japan), organized an international scientific conference with the theme “Higher Education for Human Resource Requirements and Local Socio-Economic Development – International Experiences and Suggestions for Vietnam”. The conference included 60 quality presentations from researchers, scientists, managers, faculty members, and students from higher education institutions and research institutes in Vietnam and Japan. The presentations provided diverse and reliable perspectives on theoretical issues and international experiences in implementing education policies and management practices for the development of higher education in Vietnam in general and Thu Dau Mot University in particular. The presentations were compiled by the Conference Organizing Committee into a proceedings book for publication with an ISBN number.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Rector of Thu Dau Mot University, noted that in recent years, higher education in Vietnam had seen many discussions and scientific publications related to curriculum innovation, content, teaching methods, and technology application to meet the local and national human resource needs. Contributing information and sharing research results about the university's responsibility in meeting human resource requirements and local socio-economic development, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong suggested that the conference focus on deeply discussing issues such as higher education management, competency development for learners, and the role of the university in training human resources and local socio-economic development, based on the practical experience of Thu Dau Mot University. Additionally, he proposed recommendations and development directions for the university to keep pace with the wave of skills transformation, student experience, social research, and important experiences and solutions that the university should consider in the renewal process.
In his keynote address, Professor Akinori Seki, President of the Asia Association of Education and Exchange (AAEE), expressed his pleasure in co-organizing the international conference with Thu Dau Mot University, a prestigious higher education institution in Binh Duong Province and Vietnam. Professor Akinori Seki further stated that AAEE aims to build a meaningful academic forum for Vietnamese and Japanese scientists and scholars to exchange academic knowledge, publish research results, and actively contribute solutions for the sustainable development of education in Vietnam, Japan, and the world. "The success of this conference will be followed by a series of academic events organized in the coming years between AAEE and Thu Dau Mot University," Professor Akinori Seki hoped.
Implementing the conference theme, at the plenary session, delegates listened to three reports: The Position and Importance of Local Universities in the Development of the Local Economy, culture, and Society – Achievements and Challenges from the practical experience of Thu Dau Mot University; The current situation and challenges of multicultural harmony in Japan – Towards fostering multicultural competence in the youth; Differences in students' perspectives on work readiness among universities in Vietnam. Following the plenary session, delegates engaged in a dialogue session titled "Career Skills Development Orientation for Students to Meet Labor Market Requirements". Experts and guest delegates discussed the following topics: Job opportunities in the domestic and international markets for students after graduation; Changes in job requirements from businesses towards students in the digital transformation era and the factors affecting students' job opportunities; The favorable and challenging factors for Vietnamese students when entering the labor market; Collaborative relationships between businesses, universities, and associations of education and exchange to improve students' professional skills; and other topics.
The conference program continued in the afternoon with three parallel sessions: (1) State Management of Education and Higher Education Governance; (2) The Role of Thu Dau Mot University in the socio-economic development of Binh Duong Province and the Southeast Region; (3) Higher education aimed at developing learners' competencies in the context of digital transformation. Along with 12 reports presented in the parallel sessions, the delegates engaged in multidimensional discussions on The challenges of the socio-economic context and the current requirements for human resource supply; Management models and challenges for higher education governance in the current period, and quality management in higher education; The process of globalization and internationalization in education management; Management activities and brand marketing in education; The competitive advantages of Thu Dau Mot University compared to other universities in the region - International and domestic experiences that help Thu Dau Mot University enhance its position and quality of higher education; The work of innovating university curricula towards competency-based approaches; Entrepreneurship education and innovation at the higher education level;...
It can be affirmed that the active participation and contributions of experts and scientists from both Vietnam and abroad, especially the responsible and effective cooperation between Thu Dau Mot University and AAEE, have significantly contributed to the success of the conference. “The research results and proposals presented at the conference are of great importance, serving as a basis for policy-making and strategic planning for the development of higher education during the current digital technology revolution,” concluded by Dr. Ngo Hong Diep, Vice-Rector of Thu Dau Mot University.
