This is especially important after Binh Duong Province merged into Ho Chi Minh City and during the implementation of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025, of the Politburo on making breakthroughs in the development of education and training. Accordingly, the draft adjusted strategy will continue to closely follow the Party and State's guidelines and policies on fundamental and comprehensive renovation of education and training, while concretizing the spirit of renovating the organization and management system of public non-business units, associated with the development orientation of the Southeast region and the Government's action program to implement Resolution 71-NQ/TW. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Tuan Anh emphasized that in the context of comprehensive renovation of higher education and development of the Southeast region, adjusting the development strategy is an inevitable requirement, helping Thu Dau Mot University continue to affirm its position and role as a center for training, research, and innovation in the region. The conference was an opportunity to gather feedback from managers, experts, and key staff, serving as a basis for completing the strategic plan for submission to the University Council for approval in the coming time.
Based on listening to the report on the key points of the Proposal for the Development Strategy of Thu Dau Mot University to 2030 with vision to 2050, presented by Dr. Ngo Hong Diep – Board of Trustees Vice chairman, the conference gained an understanding of the strategic process, including the foundations, approaches, and implementation roadmap. The report also presented a comprehensive assessment of the University's development status in the 2020–2025 period, highlighting achievements, remaining limitations, as well as opportunities and challenges in a new chapter. Furthermore, the strategic goals for 2030 and the vision to 2050 were clearly defined: training, scientific research, digital transformation, international cooperation, human resource development, and investment in the school’s facilities. The report also proposed key solution groups to realize the goals, such as renovating the university governance model; increasing university admissions and developing programs closely following labor market needs, associated with the socio-economic development orientation of the country and the region; enhancing research, innovation, and digital transformation capacity; expanding cooperation with businesses and domestic and international educational institutions,... Simultaneously, the report also put forward recommendations and implementation orientations to ensure the strategy execution is unified, feasible, and suitable for the University's development orientation in the new context.
Contributing at the conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi – Senior Expert, opined that, from the global development context, especially the rapid transformation under the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, along with the country's development requirements and the new context of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger, Binh Duong is identified as a dynamic region for high-tech industrial development, a center for production and innovation in the Southern region. In that context, high-quality human resources, science - technology, and innovation become key factors promoting sustainable development. According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Thu Dau Mot University needs to clearly define its position and role in the education - science - innovation ecosystem of the region, thereby changing perceptions in developing training programs towards closely associated with the needs of the labor market, businesses, and the development of the city. Training programs need to aim at enhancing the innovative capacity of learners, equipping students with the ability to adapt, create, and solve problems in the knowledge-based economy; simultaneously shifting strongly from academic research orientation to applied research, directly serving the development requirements of innovative human resources for the city. "The University needs to strongly promote scientific, technological, and innovative activities, apply digital data in management and decision-making; and simultaneously concretize the core of innovation in its mission, vision, educational philosophy, and core values. Thereby forming the unique development identity of Thu Dau Mot University in the new period" - Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi emphasized.
Sharing the same viewpoint as Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Dr. Doan Ngoc Xuan emphasized that building and adjusting the Development Strategy of the University in the new period requires fundamental renovation in management and development thinking, enhancing autonomy coupled with accountability, aiming for modern, transparent, and effective university governance. According to Dr. Doan Ngoc Xuan, the development strategy needs to be planned based on a clear recognition of the specific advantages of the university and the Northern development region of Ho Chi Minh City, where Binh Duong area is oriented to become a high-tech industrial center, a smart city, and a high-tech agricultural production area serving sustainable urban development. In that context, Thu Dau Mot University needs to focus on key fields of studies suitable for the region's development orientation, following the model of an application-oriented university, associated with innovation and community service. "This is not only about the internal growth of the university but also a pioneering responsibility in training human resources, scientific research, and knowledge transfer serving the development strategy of Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region in the new era" – Dr. Doan Ngoc Xuan emphasized.
Exchanging and discussing at the conference, the delegates unanimously agreed that the Proposal for the Development Strategy of the University was built on the basis of comprehensive analysis and objective assessment of the University's development status in correlation with the national and regional higher education context. Clearly identifying strengths, limitations, opportunities, and challenges helped the Proposal have a scientific foundation, accurately reflecting the requirements of renovation and integration in the new period. The delegates also believed that the system of goals, targets, and development orientations for each field needs to be standardized and benchmarked against the operational results of previous periods, thereby highlighting the level of progress, inheritability, and feasibility. Simultaneously, many delegates emphasized the requirement for close linkage between the University's development strategy and the socio-economic development strategy of the city and the Southeast region, as well as the national higher education renovation orientation in the context of digital transformation and international integration. The strategy needs to clearly demonstrate the vision of university development towards applied research, innovation, and association with the needs of the high-quality labor market. Considering this the core foundation for Thu Dau Mot University to affirm its role as a center of knowledge and innovation of Ho Chi Minh City and the nation.
