For the 2026-2027 academic year, Thu Dau Mot University welcomes 20 new Lao students pursuing programs in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Business Administration, Finance and Banking, Accounting, and Public Management. The intake continues to support educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, giving students the opportunity to build professional knowledge, develop career skills, and learn about Vietnamese culture during their studies at the university.
Speaking at the welcome meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Tuan Anh congratulated the students on choosing Thu Dau Mot University as their place of study and personal development. He encouraged them to take an active role in their learning, engage with Vietnamese faculty and students, and adapt quickly to the university’s academic and living environment. The Rector affirmed that the university is committed to supporting international students as they settle into life on campus, access learning resources, develop their abilities, and take part in cultural, sports, and student exchange activities. To support the new students during their initial period of enrollment, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Tuan Anh assigned the Student Support Office to work with the Youth Union and relevant units to implement a “Vietnamese student companion” model. Under this model, Vietnamese students will accompany their Lao peers as they become familiar with the campus, learn academic regulations, use student services, and participate in academic, cultural, and sports activities. This peer support is expected to help new students integrate quickly, strengthen their Vietnamese communication skills, and build close relationships at the university.
Thu Dau Mot University began training Lao students in 2009 under a cooperation framework between Ho Chi Minh City and Champasak Province in science and education. To date, the university has received and trained 148 Lao students, of whom 77 have graduated and returned to work in their home country. Many alumni now hold positions in local councils in Champasak Province, applying the professional knowledge they gained at the university to their work and contributing to local development.
In the 2026-2027 academic year, Thu Dau Mot University is training 61 Lao undergraduate students, including 41 continuing students and 20 new D26 students. They are enrolled across a range of majors, including Architecture, Information Technology, Business Administration, Public Management, Law, Finance and Banking, Chinese Language, English Language, Accounting, and Software Engineering. This expansion of study opportunities in multiple fields helps meet human resource development needs while sustaining educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. During their studies, Lao students are encouraged to participate in Youth Union and Student Association activities, cultural and sports events, and exchanges with Vietnamese students. These experiences help them develop communication skills, broaden their understanding of local life and culture, and create opportunities for students from both countries to share learning and living experiences and grow together.
The welcome program for the D26 Lao students reflects Thu Dau Mot University’s commitment to supporting international students from their first days on campus. Alongside its academic programs, the university continues to prioritize student support services and maintain favorable conditions for Lao students to study, live, and integrate into the university community, contributing to educational cooperation, cultural exchange, and the friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
